21st-23rd March Classic Car Restoration Show NEC

Peter 's Purchase

Tale of Two Pumas. By Tina Fox
So, check, I'm having a nice girlie lunch in Brum knowing Pete is content at the Restoration show (or so I thought) I get a call: -
Pete - I've bought you something, guess what?
Tina - I reply, must be car related (having suggested a toy car)
Pete - What did I buy you 26 years ago for your 40th birthday?
Tina - A Ford Puma.
Pete - Correct, I've bought you another one for your birthday!
Well, having spent 15 years saying I wish we'd kept the Puma my wish has come true.

It arrived, or rather was trailered (trailer courtesy Dave Spruce) by Pete and Alan Bateman on Monday 31st March. First time I’d seen it in the flesh! Having felt apprehension, trepidation etc. as to the condition of it (seeing the pictures) I thought well it's not too bad! Once off the trailer and parked at the bottom of the drive we set to jet washing off the green patina that it had acquired during its 6/7 years under a tree, and it transformed into a Silver Puma just like 26 years ago.
Tuesday, we painstakingly with the help of a neighbour winched it up to the top of the driver which is rather steep. I, in-between winching tackled the mould inside, white vinegar, hope it stays mould free but will go over it again.
Wednesday, now to the nitty gritty stuff, lift the bonnet (not for the first time) and for the one and probably only time in my life I vaxed an engine compartment, then later in the day the boot, where we found a wheel, Puma mats, light bulb and a 10 CD loading stereo that made Pete very happy as modern cars no longer have a CD player.
Thursday, we had a day off, absolutely worn out, putting it politely. So, now it's over to Pete to look at the engine and hopefully in time get it running, fingers crossed, watch this space.
Thank you to Pete for buying me my second Puma and to all the ones who encouraged him (you know who you are) you are forgiven!
Dave and Alan for helping to get it to its new home.
Attached, picture of original Puma 26 years ago and second Puma. Guess which is which!..
